Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. Our goal is for every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn.
How we support student wellbeing
At Riverwood Public School, supporting students' mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life. Our whole-school approach is designed to promote wellbeing for every student, while providing individual assistance when needed.
Positive relationships
Relationships are at the heart of our approach to wellbeing. Teachers take the time to know each child and ensure they are always treated with patience, understanding and respect. Each day begins with a Morning Circle, giving teachers and students time to connect and start the day positively.
Consistent routines
Consistent routines across the school help students know what to expect and what is expected of them. Familiar routines for learning, transitions and everyday classroom activities create a calm and predictable environment.
Teaching positive behaviour
Our school values - work hard, be kind and play fair - guide behaviour across the school. Through weekly Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) lessons, students are explicitly taught what is expected in different settings.
Social and emotional learning
Riverwood Resilience is our school-designed social and emotional learning program. Through explicit lessons, students develop skills to identify and manage emotions, build positive relationships, solve problems and respond to challenges.
Successful transitions
We support children and families through key transitions, including starting Kindergarten, joining Riverwood at another year level and preparing for high school. Our Riverwood Ready program helps children become familiar with our school before Kindergarten.
Individual health and wellbeing
When a student needs additional support with their health or wellbeing, we work closely with families to understand how we can best help. Support may include individual health care plans, attendance monitoring, access to our specialist staff and referrals to external services.
